What is Lima te Llena?
Are you looking for things to see and do in Lima, but keep coming across lists of the same attractions and restaurants over and over again? Have you ever watched an Anthony Bourdain television episode or read a travel blogger's exciting only-in-Peru type story and wished to yourself, "I'd like to see or do that someday?" Do you want to explore the Peruvian menu beyond the basics? Then come with us!
Lima te Llena literally translates as "Lima fills you." The capital of Peru is a metropolis with countless dimensions to discover, and we believe that just experiencing its surface layers doesn't do Lima justice. We formed this company to show travelers like you all that Peru's capital city has to offer beyond what you see in cookie-cutter travel guides and web articles.
Our carefully curated set of Lima food tours showcase the real and authentic sides of the city that most visitors aren't aware exist. We show you the comfort zone and encourage you to explore outside of it as much as possible.
In short, Lima te Llena tours take you away from the obvious and expose you to Lima's real perspectives as you dine, learn, and laugh side by side with locals in ways that connect you closest with what Peru and its people are really all about.
Who Are You?
Jose was born a Limeño and moved to Colorado, USA with his parents at a very young age. There he grew up in a distinctly Peruvian household; he would spend weekends helping his mother prepare family favorites such as ceviche and parihuela, and learning how to hold his pisco.
Having narrowed down his love for all things culinary and delicious, Jose participated in an intensive 2-year apprenticeship program at a prestigious country club in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, USA where he learned all the classical cornerstone cooking techniques such as the French kitchen, and beyond. From perfecting the art of Italian ossobuco to Japanese miso soup made from scratch to American eggs Benedict, Jose certainly learned his way around the kitchen!
After relocating back to Peru to get closer with his heritage, he has since worked in some of Lima's top restaurants such as Maido. He has also had his hands in the menu evolution aboard 2 luxury vessels that sail deep in the Peruvian Amazon and a renowned floating gourmet restaurant deep in the rainforest.
Finally, Jose wrapped up his education at Le Cordon Bleu in Lima with specialization in Food, Beverage & Hospitality, which included formal education in the history, background, techniques, and significance of both international and Peruvian gastronomy, making him an expertly educated guide for our Lima food tours!
Connie was born in Hong Kong and moved to the Midwestern USA with her family when she was a child, where she developed a natural love for sweet corn and country music radio. She has a degree from Purdue University, with focus on Business and Marketing.
After graduating from college, she decided it was time to broaden her horizons beyond her small but lovable town and bought a one-way ticket to Mexico. Although that solo trip eventually concluded at 63 days, Connie's travels were not yet over -- not at all. Subsequent stints led her to faraway places such as Tunisia, France, and Colombia.
Then, she figured it would be useful to improve upon the Spanish she spent 4 years studying in high school and South America seemed the perfect place to hop around next. Landing in Lima, she soon secured a marketing gig with one of the top travel companies in the Peruvian capital and has worked in Peruvian tourism ever since, with a balance between middle market and luxury minded companies, even if she still retains her backpacking spirit.
As of 2016, Connie has called Lima, Peru her home going on 5 years!
