Why Should You Take This Tour?
Día de los Santos, or All Saints' Day, is a sacred holiday in Latin America when friends and family joyfully visit their deceased loved ones in the cemetery and spend the day eating, drinking, playing music, and enjoying time together. Join us this Sunday November 1 to discover the world of Peruvian food, both classics and treats unique to his festival, and we'll also spend time at the immense Nueva Esperanza cemetery to witness this day of remembrance.
In the morning, get to know the truth behind the Peruvian gastronomy hype... which is that Peru's menu is truly as wide, varied, and delicious as you've heard! We will pick you up from a predetermined point in Miraflores District and transfer about 10 minutes to our local market. In this neighborhood and market, you will see, smell, taste, and experience what daily life as a local Limeño is like.
Journey across the different regions of Peru by way of their flavors! On this food and market tour, you will have the chance to taste classics such as coastal seafood ceviche, fruits from the mountains, smoked meats from the Amazon, and a range of other iconic dishes, snacks, and drinks that not only make up the national menus but also reflect the historical and cultural past of this country.
Then take a step back from the hustle and bustle of the market and enter our exclusive Tasting Station right in the market itself. We will enjoy some fresh juices made with native fruits as well as an Andean cheese platter paired with all the right fixings. Furthermore, on this special one-time outing in celebration of Día de los Santos, we will try the traditional dessert of this holiday month: turron de Doña Pepa!
After some time to digest the delicacies at the market, together with our partner Alternative Peru, we will head towards the second largest cemetery in the world to see the highlight of the Día de los Santos festival. On November 1st every year, All Saints' Day, the cemetery receives over 1 million people who come to eat, drink, and dance with their deceased family members. It’s a celebration of life and death according to the traditions of the Andean people. It is very unique and different from the other cemeteries you find in Lima and all over the world due to the strong local immigrant customs that continue to thrive here, providing incredibly fascinating insight into Andean culture.
We’ll be able to witness and participate in this unique celebration on our visit and walk through the cemetery. Your guide will tell you more about Andean burial rituals and customs as well as their beliefs surrounding death and the dead while we’ll share a beer, just like the locals do on this day, with the ones passed away. You won’t be able to get enough of the new impressions of music, dancing, the smell of different foods, the mix of emotions and colors and the warmth of the local people.
There are only 9 spots for this year's outing so sign up as soon as possible!
