The latest to feature Lima te Llena is El Comercio, Peru's national newspaper!
We had the pleasure of hosting Maria on one of our food tours and share with her our vision for Lima te Llena and why we chose to tell the story of Peru through food and art.
Here are some excepts from the article:
Why visit markets to get to know the country?
José: Just being in the market for 2 hours, you can see a lot of culture. We speak through fruits, fish, and other distinctive national foods and invite visitors to try a bit of the many varied products from around the country. Through this, they can see and taste how, gastronomically, all roads lead to the capital. This is quite unique to Peru and doesn't happen in all places.
Connie: Here, you can see everything that is typical in the daily life of a Peruvian. This is real life, this is how Peruvians live day to day, they go to the market and often buy only what they need for the day. Moreover, at the end of our food tours we go to eat in a huarique (local restaurant) and that cements the local experience we offer.
Tell me about your tours. Are they geared towards visitors who have little time in Lima?
José: : The tours are approximately 4 hours. It's a shame that many people only come to Lima for 1 or 2 days at most and then leave. Therefore in order to take advantage of the short time they have in the city, we encourage visitors to come see something different with us and experience Peru in an authentic way they may not see later on their trip.
How have the vendors of the market received your tours?
José: : The real stars of our tours are the market vendors. Their unique personalities translate into the overall experience, and they offer pure laughter, jokes, and lots of fun to the tours.
Connie: We don't use the market purely for our benefit. Our idea is to work together with the vendors and evolve with the market lifestyle. As well, the vendors generally enjoy hosting our guests not only because they can sell some extra items to the travelers, but because they can share their insights. The seafood stands are particular favorites with our clients!
