Why take this workshop?
Next to its food, one of the most telling aspects of a country and society is its art. Lima te Llena chicha art tours & workshops take you 2 districts from Miraflores and into a small artist’s studio which has become one of the birthplaces for the revival of the popular chicha aesthetic.
Chicha is an iconic style of typography and calligraphy in Peru inspired by the classic Andean traditions transplanted into the big capital city. Its origins, however, reach far back not only into Peruvian but also South American history, blending together the evolution of music, migration, national identities, and daily struggles of the working class. Learn more about Peruvian chicha art at our blog.
That is to say, popular chicha art is the visual product of Peru's larger socio-political landscape.
We will pick you up from your hotel and venture out of the touristy part of Lima. As we arrive to the creative studio just a few blocks from the Pacific waves, under the shadow of the Morro Solar mountain, you will already begin to feel removed from Lima's modernity.
Our two artists who are among the core collective of this creative movement will explain the history and significance of chicha art, its characteristics, and ideologies. They will demonstrate this painting style, then you will have a chance to apply paint to canvas yourself and take your work home with you. Meanwhile, lively chicha music tunes echo in the background.
During a short break, we will provide you with typical Peruvian snacks and also some water. After all, few things go so hand in hand as fulfilling both your taste and sight senses at the same time!
Finally, pass through the gallery where you will learn about the different variations of popular chicha and maybe purchase some pieces as souvenirs.
